I just finished reading an advanced copy of The Monsters of Templeton and highly recommend the book to anyone who likes an entertaining story. Ms. Groff weaves together the past and the present and I, for one, couldn't wait to find out the town's secrets.

The Monsters of Templeton
I just found this book in our public library. I also, literally, could not put it down. I don't know how long it has been since I've pulled an all-nighter with a book -- while I wanted to think it was because of my outstanding literary taste, I thought perhaps it was mostly because I live in Otsego County; my ancestors moved here in 1790 and we're in Cooperstown regularly for things like doctor's appointments... I loved the Bud's "Greek Chorus." I loved the Monster. I loved Vi, Willie, the "lump." I loved the voices from the past. I loved the ghosts. I was happy to discover that Lauren Groff can read and enjoy all sorts ("genres") of literature, since I'm a browser myself -- everything from the translations of such things as early Babylonian texts, the Bible and down through the centuries with epics, history and now the modern murders, "cosies," fantasy, even cook books... I have published two volumes of collected essays under another name -- I'm tempted to start telling stories myself, happily giving credit to Lauren for breaking open the possibilities.
